The role ofprofessional and amateur astronomers in the discovery of supernovas isaddressed, and sources of confusion in mistaken reports of supernovasare examined. Difficulties with obtaining the exact positions ofsupernovas are considered, and the designation of supernovas and theirinclusion in different catalogs are discussed.
